Self Employment and Training Eligibility
To be eligible for Self Employment or Training, you must:
- Be an EI Client (defined as actively receiving EI; having an EI Claim that has ended in the past 5 years; OR earned more than $2,000 in EI insurable earnings in at least 5 of the last 10 years)
- Be receiving income assistance or disability supports
- Have a disability

Have you ever thought of entrepreneurship? WorkBC may be able to help make your dreams a reality. Eligible, case managed clients with an approved business plan may be able to attend the YMCA’s Self Employment Program with a referral from a WorkBC Vancouver Midtown Skills Enhancement Specialist. Clients who attend the YMCA’s Self Employment Program will take business plan development and entrepreneurial workshops, receive assistance in their business launch and implementation, and receive ongoing support and mentorship. Upon completion of the Self Employment Program at at the YMCA, clients are expected to be self-sufficient and confidently able to run their own business.
